You don't need to own a bike to take advantage of Northern Virginia's growing trail network.
Fairfax County says it now has more than 90 Capital Bikeshare stations in areas including Merrifield, Tysons, Reston and Herndon.
The system is especially useful when you're combining transit with a short bike trip.
Instead of thinking of bike share as a replacement for owning a bicycle, think of it as another transportation option: Metro for the long trip, bike share for the last few miles, and your feet for everything in between.
That flexibility matters in neighborhoods where shopping, restaurants, parks and transit are close—but not necessarily close enough to make every trip by foot.
Before heading out, check the current Capital Bikeshare map for station locations and bike availability.
